Position Summary

 

This position is responsible for the implementation, administration and improving of environmental policies, procedures and programs and the coordination of environmental training.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Strictly adhere to and enforce all environmental procedures, CAPP (NDEP), OSHA, EPA, RMP Ormat.
  • Maintain a working knowledge in underground injection control programs, hazardous materials and wastes, universal and solid waste, water and air quality, underground storage tank programs, emergency contingency plans, spill prevention, control and countermeasure, storm water pollution prevention plans, asbestos management, PCB compliance, project mitigation.
  • Responsible for managing environmental policies and training in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintain regulatory database and compliance tracking systems.
  • Administer environmental reporting requirements on a local, state, and federal level.
  • Record employee training and monitor training recertification & effectiveness of training conducted.
  • Assist with identifying time loss environmental incidents and unsafe practices, recommend appropriate corrective action to the Technical Manager.
  • Maintain contact with emergency response services to ensure exchanged information is current.
  • Maintain contact with all state, federal, local regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to obtain and retain appropriate certifications and licensing.
  • Conduct onsite environmental inspections and reinforce the company vision, values and goals to the team.
  • Be available (on call) after normal working hours to attend to environmental issues that require immediate responsive action, including environmental audits by regulators.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner, enter and exit vehicle without assistance, remain alert while driving for continuous periods of time and read and understand maps.
  • Work with Ormat Environmental Manager for continuous training and guidance on all regulatory environmental requirements. Identify and resolve foreseen issues beforehand.
  • Assist in budgeting for environmental fees, and environmental invoices that are paid at the plant level.
  • This position requires up to 40% travel.

 

Other Responsibilities

 

  • Provide administrative support to the HAZMAT group.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by management.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • An associate degree in environmental science, or equivalent preferred or a combination of certificates and years or experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an environmental position, or equivalent.
  • OSHA 10 Certificate and the ability to obtain relative certifications.
    • Environmental, Compliance Coordinator 2: A associates degree in environmental science required, bachelor's degree preferred or a combination of certificates and years or experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental applications.
      • OSHA 30 Certificate and the ability to obtain other certifications such as CEM, CES, Air and Water permitting, HAZWOPER.
      • Leadership, forward thinking and planning.
    • Environmental, Compliance Coordinator 3: A bachelor's degree in environmental science preferred or a combination of certificates and years or experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental applications.
      • OSHA 30 Certificate and the ability to obtain other certifications such as CEM, CES, Air and Water permitting, HAZWOPER.
      • Leadership, forward thinking and planning.
  • Working knowledge of the Safety field’s concepts, practices, codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Must have excellent verbal, visual and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and use of the Internet.
  • Must be willing to travel to areas of operation to perform environmental inspections, and to support and monitor employee safety training.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s driving safety program.

 

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • This job requires sitting approximately 30% and standing up to 70%.
  • The ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear any required protective equipment, as required by safety procedures and regulations.
  • This job requires standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to work in severe conditions.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, drilling rigs, and walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Up to 40% travel.
