Performance Engineer

Position Summary

This position is responsible for power plants engineering support in the areas of performance monitoring and generation optimization, process, plant and equipment design, control specifications, and troubleshooting operational issues. This position is also responsible for process and equipment improvement regarding safety, operability, efficiency, and profitability.

 

Essential Functions

  • Conduct detailed power plants performance analysis, on-site and off-site. Monitor plant performance and efficiency using analytical tools and software.
  • Prepare power generation forecasts and provide other thermodynamics calculations to support planning and budgeting.
  • Provide day-to-day power plants engineering support.
  • Monitor and identify/implement improvements to increase net operating income by analyzing equipment working point and heat source conditions.
  • Provide process design, equipment specifications, and control philosophies for new plant and improvement projects; work independently and/or with internal personnel/groups to identify and achieve improvements.               
  • Must be able to travel to other locations, including rural areas and other states, to work on other projects.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner, refuel vehicle and enter and exit vehicle without assistance, remain alert while driving for continuous period of time and read and understand maps.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial process, power generation facility or manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • To be eligible for Senior Process Engineer, must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in an industrial process, power generation facility or manufacturing facility.
  • High level of competence and applicable experience.
  • Must have a high degree of initiative, ability to work with minimal or no supervision.        
  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in plant operating areas including exposure to noise, vibrations, heat and cold.
  • Must be able to wear any required protective equipment, as required by safety procedures and regulations.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work off of elevated platforms and walkways and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions.
  • Job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.
  • This job requires sitting approximately 80% and standing up to 20%.
