Position Summary

This position provides operational EHS leadership and manages EHS support for assigned Electricity Segment operations. The Manager partners with leaders and employees to prevent injuries and illnesses, maintain environmental and regulatory compliance, strengthen EHS culture, and integrate practical risk controls into daily work. The position leads assigned EHS Coordinators and works closely with the EHS Governance & Training, EHS Audit & Compliance, Projects, Operations, and other functional teams.

 

Primary Scope

  • Business focus: Operational EHS leadership for assigned Electricity Segment operations.
  • Direct reports: Assigned EHS Coordinators.
  • Key interfaces: Operations, Projects, EHS Governance & Training, EHS Audit & Compliance, EHS Manager - Resource, Human Resources, Legal, and business leadership.

 

Essential Funtions

  • Leads and manages assigned EHS Coordinators, establishes priorities, allocates resources, supports professional development, and confirms effective site support.
  • Provides visible EHS leadership and technical support to Electricity Segment operations, including geothermal plants, drilling and wellfield activities, outages, contractors, and other assigned work.
  • Partners with operational leaders to identify significant EHS risks, establish annual objectives, implement controls, and monitor performance.
  • Manages implementation of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, and contractor safety requirements within the assigned scope.
  • Leads or supports incident notification, investigation, causal analysis, corrective action development, recurrence prevention, and sharing of lessons learned.
  • Supports planning and execution of job hazard analyses, pre-job safety meetings, safe work procedures, field observations, and critical-risk controls.
  • Provides EHS review and support for operational changes, outages, projects, new equipment, contractor mobilization, and startup or turnover activities.
  • Coordinates with the Projects EHS interface to align construction, greenfield, outage, turnover, and operational readiness expectations.
  • Ensures assigned operations respond appropriately to regulatory inquiries, inspections, permit issues, audit findings, and corrective actions, in coordination with applicable specialists and leadership.
  • Implements EHS Management System requirements and provides feedback to the EHS Governance & Training function regarding usability, gaps, and needed improvements.
  • Supports internal EHS audits and external regulatory audits, ensures timely access to records and personnel, and holds responsible leaders accountable for corrective action completion.
  • Reviews EHS performance data, incident trends, observations, compliance status, and leading and lagging indicators with operational leaders.
  • Builds EHS capability through coaching, field presence, effective communication, and reinforcement of leader and employee accountability.
  • Communicates significant EHS risks, compliance concerns, incidents, and resource needs promptly to the Vice President, Environmental, Health, Safety, and Training and appropriate business leaders.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to address staffing needs, employee development, and performance management in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable under Ormat’s driver safety program.
  • Maintains a regular physical presence in the Reno office to effectively perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Travels regularly to supported locations and performs field work in industrial and project environments.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, occupational safety and health, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent education, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in power generation, geothermal, drilling, mining, heavy industry, construction, or comparable operations.
  • Prior supervisory, team-lead, or multi-site EHS leadership experience preferred.
  • Detailed working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local occupational safety and environmental requirements.
  • Experience with incident investigation, corrective action, contractor safety, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, and operational risk management.
  • Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent is preferred. Relevant OSHA, environmental, incident investigation, and management system training is also preferred.
  • Strong leadership, judgment, technical writing, verbal communication, coaching, planning, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility with operational leaders and frontline employees and to manage priorities across geographically dispersed locations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use EHS, document, incident, action-tracking, and reporting systems.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in an office environment and have the ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk operational, project, and industrial work areas, including uneven surfaces and stairs.
  • Ability to travel as required by the position and operate a vehicle safely.
