Logistics Operations Specialist

Position Summary

The Logistics Operations Specialist is responsible for leading efforts to establish a transportation network capable of delivering goods and services as required to support all Ormat operations. Beyond transportation, the Logistics Operations Specialist will establish relationships with customs agents across all Ormat’s areas of operations ensuring goods and services can move freely and unencumbered.

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead the selection and evaluation of service providers related to logistics.
  • Prepare and monitor logistics budgets, and aggressively control costs for all logistics budgets, including monitoring logistics spend against budgeted PO value.
  • Focus on logistics cost reduction, while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Establish processes and documented procedures reflective of the requirements for successfully managing logistics on a domestic or global scale (project dependent).
  • Work closely with the internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to expedite schedules and reduce costs.
  • Possess expert knowledge of assessing and developing packing lists and commercial invoices, tracking all related information into a master equipment list (MEL) per project.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as it relates to shipments being coordinated.
  • Prepare logistics plans as requested, per project.
  • Lead risk assessments and implement measures for mitigation when required.
  • Coordinate with the procurement department and other relevant stakeholders for delivery of goods and services acquired.
  • Periodically visit sites to identify and evaluate improvement opportunities and ensure safety goals are being met.
  • Participate in post project reviews to determine areas for future improvement.
  • Ensure all logistics operations adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Negotiate, create, and actively manage service contracts with freight-forwarders that can logistically support all Ormat projects and/or locations, including FTL, LTL, air freight (standard economy, priority, next day), and ocean freight shipping.
  • Create, maintain and distribute logistics status reports to all internal stakeholders, on a weekly basis, or as dictated by needs of the project.
  • Collaborate with internal customers, vendors, and other key stakeholders to ensure timely deliveries and quality control.
  • Identify potential logistics issues and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
  • The willingness to travel up to 25% nationally and internationally.
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Support and enforce the company’s safety protocols, including education of any logistics vendor that may be on Ormat property.
  • Provide support for special projects and endeavors as assigned.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • A Bachelor’s of Business Administration (preferred) or related field (significant relevant logistics experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelors)
  • Five (5) years’ experience directly associated with logistics.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of cultures is advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and influence positively a diverse group of executives, managers, stakeholders, and subject matter experts
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and execute in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a strong ownership mentality
  • Familiarity with international shipping and customs regulations for global logistics.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft tools (e.g. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)
  • Proficiency in SAP preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable under Ormat's Safe Driving program.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time to international and domestic locations as needed.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in an office and operation/construction environments.
  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear a variety of protective equipment as required by safety procedures and regulations.
  • The ability to travel for long distances by car and air.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance.
