GIS Analyst

Position Summary

The GIS Analyst works within the land department as part of the Business Development team. This position is responsible for the organization of land data for company land holdings, project prospects, as well as the development of GIS databases to effectively track all leases, fee ownership and rights of ways. The GIS analyst will also be tasked with the review of real estate documents, title reports, and legal descriptions and compile data into a shareable database. This role will include creating databases for the management and use of current and historical spatial information related to project permitting. The GIS analyst will also assist with the spatial mapping for project interconnection alignments. The GIS analyst will work in tandem with the Resource, BD, and Land Departments to track spatial data for past and potential prospects as well as maintaining the federal land lease database.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain functional land holding and spatial permitting databases.
  • Develop GIS workflows and standards for Business Development department, with Resource needs being considered.
  • Review of leases, legal descriptions, title reports and real estate documents.
  • Assist land team with project financing tasks.
  • Create effective maps for communication for visuals on a variety of projects.
  • Support the Business Development team as well as Resource Department in the development of new prospects.

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Organize, compile and/or digitize public datasets and reports
  • Develop standards for GIS metadata and quality control
  • Occasionally collect new and/or confirm existing geospatial data in the field
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree related to earth sciences, environmental sciences, geography, or cartography
  • Must have demonstrated GIS experience including ESRI/ArcGIS software
  • Experience with Python scripting is advantageous but not required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of the Internet.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
