Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing technical support to the Resource team for geothermal exploration, development, and operations especially pertaining to field work and data acquisition. This role will work both domestically and internationally to support global exploration. Duties include management and maintenance of equipment; leading field work and managing field crews; managing data systems; and data processing and interpretation.

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for maintenance of exploration and engineering equipment and consumables. This includes managing a comprehensive equipment inventory, performing calibrations (in-house or external as needed), equipment organization, storage management, and handling replacements and restocking.
  • Provide technical support as needed for exploration, geoscience, or engineering needs. This may include data management and processing, research, writing reports, preparing presentation material, and site investigations.
  • Fulfill the role of crew team member or crew team lead in the acquisition of geophysical data. Ensure safe and timely completion of field work and survey objectives.
  • Lead field work planning and preparation, including survey design, field scouting, logistics permitting, budget management, generation of maps and organization of geospatial data.
  • Evaluate safety hazards; prepare safety and emergency action plans for field activities.
  • Process geophysical data, analyze data quality, identify sources of noise, and keep databases organized.
  • Generate maps, cross sections, figures, memos and/or presentations that aid in reporting and/or interpretation of geoscientific data.
  • Prepare technical reports and memos
  • Coordinate with contract field crews performing geophysical data collection and assist when necessary.
  • Manage domestic and international shipping to support equipment movement or purchases, replacements, restocking, or deliveries to vendors. This may require shipping of hazardous goods
  • Perform basic data scripting, plotting and analysis.
  • Work collaboratively to interpret geophysical and geological data in the context of geothermal exploration, development, and operations.

       

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Organize and catalog legacy datasets and reports.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to well testing and drilling activities
  • Office administration as needed
  • File reports and samples with regulatory agencies.
  • Collect fluid samples and prepare for laboratory analysis
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management

 

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, physics, geology, mathematics, engineering, or a related
  • field.
  • Relevant field work experience collecting geological or geophysical data.
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and use of the Internet.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit accurate understanding and communication to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT auto insurance carrier.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, R or a similar scripting language.
  • Organized and good communication skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to perform job duties safely and efficiently
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Ormat
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet
  • Experience with geospatial software such as ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Online highly desirable.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

 

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and work outdoors in difficult weather conditions efficiently and safely
  • The ability to walk, hike, and work on steep, rough terrain for extended periods of time
  • The ability to safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways and off-road
  • The ability to travel approximately 75% of time.
  • The ability to periodically lift up to 20kg
  • The ability to work in an office environment and at a desk
  • The ability to work at a computer and monitor for long periods of time and stay alert
  • The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods.
