Position Summary

This position is responsible for world-class exploration and development of geothermal resources globally. This position supports world-class operations of geothermal power plants with geoscience excellence. An individual in this role will lead a world-class collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment creating significant value for the Company.

 

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintains a safe workplace and takes responsibility for safety with the goal of zero incidents.
  • Ensures compliance for self and team with internal policies as well as legal and governmental legislation and obligations.
  • Actively works as part of the Management Team of the wider Resource, Drilling and EGS team, as well as the Exploration & Resource Management Team, and develops and maintains strong working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Oversees the functional responsibility across Geology and Geophysics, developing and maintaining a world-class Exploration and Reservoir Management approach.
  • Ensures functional team of responsibility and works closely and collaboratively with other key disciplines such as Geochemistry, Reservoir Engineering, Reservoir Modeling, Production Engineering and Drilling Engineering.
  • Functionally oversees and efficiently manages the company’s geothermal exploration and development portfolio to provide growth for the company, including the preparation of budgets and efficient management thereof. Provides support to Project Management for the portfolio.
  • Contributes to the oversight and efficient management of the company’s operating geothermal reservoirs with world-class Reservoir Management approaches, working collaboratively with Operations and other internal stakeholders.
  • Identifies and manages science, engineering and research requirements to reduce reservoir uncertainty so that the investment of the total assets (surface and subsurface) is optimized.
  • Provides on-going financial forecasts and budget management for relevant cost centers.
  • Ensures relevant reporting requirements are identified and delivered.
  • Develops and improves systems and processes (including data management) within the area of responsibility to ensure world-class approach.
  • Acts in a dependable manner and uses sound judgement in all activities.
  • Manages data and information in a manner that is consistent with company systems and processes.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with external consultants and researchers in support of Ormat.
  • Works with Business Development to identify a pipeline of opportunities for acquisitions or joint ventures.
  • Leads or participates in due-diligence on potential projects (acquisitions, joint venture buy-in’s etc.).
  • Supports new ventures, such as Next Generation Geothermal as required.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to address staffing needs, employee development, and performance management in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Travel to international and domestic locations as needed.

 

 

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Represents Ormat at public speaking engagements in industry conferences and other forums.
  • Acts as a management or technical representative with joint-ventures or other parties as-required.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management.

 

 

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Must possess Master of Science or Engineering in a relevant subject. A Doctorate degree in a relevant subject is advantageous. A major in Geology is preferred.
  • Preferably will possess business qualifications (e.g. MBA).
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing people and 15 years’ experience in the industry or related fields.
  • Experience in Project Management is preferred. Experience under the PMI project management framework is preferred, ideally holding either CAPM or PMP qualification.
  • Must demonstrate being a team player with high emotional intelligence, who is able to bring out the best in those around them.
  • Must demonstrate a strong ability to plan, coordinate and direct varied and complex programs and tasks.
  • Must possess an understanding of accounting, contract management, HR, procurement and other administrative functions.
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet.
  • Proficiency in geoscience acquisition, processing and interpretation is required. Experience in geothermal is preferred.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to safely and efficiently perform the job duties. Proficiency in other languages is advantageous, especially in Spanish and Bahasa (Indonesia).
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities so time is used efficiently and effectively.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure quality performance.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Ormat’s auto insurance carrier.

 

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment and to work at a computer, and computer monitor, and use repetitive motion for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in a power plant and wellfield near hot pipes, drilling rigs and heavy equipment
  • Ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and work outdoors in difficult weather conditions
  • Ability to safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways and off-road safely
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Ability to periodically lift up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including internationally
