Position Summary
|
This position is responsible for the strategic execution and day-to-day management of all commercial contracts and customer relationships for the Electricity Segment. The Director of Commercial Operations ensures that all assets are operated in a manner that maximizes revenue and complies with all contractual obligations. The Director will ensure we have strong strategic relationships with each of our customers and at all levels of the organization and will leverage those relationships to optimize our existing business as well as create opportunities to grow with each customer.

Essential Functions
|
- Contract Management: Oversee the administration and execution of all power purchase agreement (PPA) obligations and other commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions to maximize revenue.

- Operational Alignment: Partner with the operations and asset management teams to align plant generation with commercial obligations, identifying and resolving any discrepancies that could impact profitability.
|
- Strategic Customer Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for external customers, managing relationships and addressing any contractual or operational issues. Ensure that we have strong relationships at all levels of the organization and are planned and coordinated in our discussions with customers. These relationships will strengthen our existing business with customers and also create opportunities to grow with them.
- Stakeholder management: Take a lead role in managing other stakeholders such as land owners, royalty owners, etc. Ensure strong clarity on accountability between teams and deliver timely and accurate management of the relationships assigned to the commercial team.

- Process & Policy: Develop and implement standardized processes and policies for commercial operations, ensuring consistency and efficiency across all assets.

- Risk Mitigation: Monitor market conditions and regulatory and policy changes to identify and mitigate commercial risks that could affect the company's financial performance.
- Permit compliance support: Many operating permits contain operational reporting obligations. The commercial team will partner with the compliance team and operations teams to provide strong support where appropriate.
- Team Leadership: Build and develop a team of commercial experts that fully understand all commercial agreements, and act as the go-to experts in the organization for all commercial matters. The team will be forward looking, partnering with colleagues across the business to drive optimization of business results and anticipation and mitigation of potential risks.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
|
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in the energy sector, with a strong background in commercial operations or contract management. At least 5 years of leadership experience is required.

- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field is required. An MBA or a Juris Doctor (JD) is a plus.
|
- Skills: Deep knowledge of energy markets and commercial agreements. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical capabilities for evaluating contract performance and market data.

Physical Requirements

- This role primarily involves office-based work, but it may require occasional travel and site visits. The ideal candidate must be prepared to handle the physical and environmental demands associated with both corporate and operational settings.

- Office & Computer Work: The ability to work for extended periods at a computer, using repetitive motions and remaining in a stationary position.

- Travel: The flexibility to travel to various company sites and other business locations. This may include safely operating a motor vehicle or navigating public transportation and airports.

- Site Visit Readiness: The capability to conduct site visits that may require walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and standing for periods of time.

- Safety Awareness: The ability to wear required protective equipment, such as a hard hat or safety glasses, in compliance with site-specific regulations.
