Intern - Project Engineering

Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Project Engineering Intern to join our projects team focused on building utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to various phases of our BESS projects, working closely with experienced engineers and project managers. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about cutting-edge energy storage technologies, renewable energy integration, and large-scale infrastructure development.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assist in Project Planning: Support the project engineering team in the development of project schedules, resource planning, and design coordination for utility-scale BESS projects.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance in reviewing designs, schematics, and specifications related to electrical, mechanical, and control systems. Assist in ensuring designs meet industry standards and project requirements.
  • Documentation: Help prepare and organize project documentation, including engineering drawings, reports, and equipment specifications. Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of project progress.
  • Vendor Coordination: Assist in coordinating with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials. Support the engineering team in evaluating vendor proposals and reviewing technical submittals.
  • Site Visits: Participate in site visits to observe construction and installation activities. Assist with on-site inspections, and support the engineering team in ensuring that construction activities adhere to design specifications and safety standards.
  • Problem Solving: Work with the project team to identify and resolve technical challenges that arise during the design, procurement, or construction phases of the project.
  • Commissioning Support: Provide support during the commissioning phase of BESS projects, including helping with system testing, data collection, and documentation of results.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various teams, including design engineers, construction managers, and commissioning specialists, to ensure successful project execution.

Other Responsibilities

  • Previous internship or project experience related to energy systems, renewable energy, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with energy storage technologies and power systems.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in energy storage, renewable energy, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, with coursework or project experience in energy systems being a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think analytically and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in field activities.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in an office environment.
  • This job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping and kneeling.
  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert.
  • This position requires sitting 80% of the time and standing and walking 20% of the time.

Must have the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
