Commissioning Engineer

 

Position Summary

The Commissioning Engineer, Storage Operations is responsible for the planning and interfacing with design teams, oversight of commissioning work, acceptance testing, and turnover of battery storage facilities on behalf of the Operations.

 

Essential Functions

  • Participate in project meetings as the representative for Operations, including project kickoff through engineering, design and equipment selection up to and including commissioning, startup and Commercial Operation Date.
  • Ensure the commissioning, operation, quality and documentation is issued by relevant internal and external parties.
  • Prepare, manage, perform, coordinate and monitor the commissioning of the specified systems in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with environmental protection measures and local regulations.
  • Implementation of the necessary EHS procedures during commissioning including preparation of method statements, risk analyses, safety walks, toolbox talks, etc.
  • Organize and supervise the safety program during commissioning work (site rules, safety regulations, LOTO, etc.) from system pre-startup until Commercial Operation Date.
  • Prepare deficiency punch list based on Operations turnover requirements and supervise witness testing on behalf of Operations.
  • Recommend continuous design and product improvements and project cost reductions.
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.
  • Travel to various US construction projects will be required, with extended assignment at the construction locations. Home location is flexible but will interact with a Philadelphia, PA based team, both in-person and remote.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, OR related technical experience in similar field.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 5-7 years’ experience in fields such as construction, maintenance or commissioning with electrical utilities, independent power producers, or power generation equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge and application of EHS rules.
  • Ability to understand technical information and design drawings.
  • Strong computer literacy in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and various other programs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

 

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and effectively communicate information to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
  • Must be able to exercise independent discretion and judgment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Ormat’s auto insurance carrier.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
