Mechancial Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

This position must be able to perform the essential functions below. The differences between classifications are the level of mastery of the essential functions, the degree of supervision required when performing these functions, and the amount of lead direction provided to others.

Technician 1: Entry-level class. The Technician works under close supervision, performing the essential functions at an adequate level.

Technician 2: Journey-level class. The Technician works under general supervision, independently performing the essential functions at an advanced level.

Technician 3: Expert-level class. The Technician works with minimal supervision and has mastered the knowledge and skills needed to perform the essential functions.

 

Essential Functions

  • Observe and follow Ormat’s environmental and operational rules, procedures and guidelines.
  • Strictly adhere to and enforce safety procedures as required by ORMAT, CAPP, and OSHA.
  • Responsible for welding and fabrication of pipe spools, flanges, fittings and structural items.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical equipment as required to support plant operations.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner, remain alert while driving for continuous period of time and read and understand maps.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be able to travel extensively to other locations, including rural areas and other states to work on other projects.
  • When assigned as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician 2 or 3:
  • Must be able to operate a forklift, crane, and/or a backhoe.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental and general housekeeping duties.
  • Attend monthly safety and maintenance training.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls.
  • Participate in regular training to improve performance, acquire professional licenses, and maintain certification required by Ormat and government regulations.
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • When assigned as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician 2 or 3:
  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior Mechanical Maintenance Technicians.
  • Process work orders, assist in inventory, and requisitioning of parts and supplies
  • Search for and eliminate organizational weaknesses and jobsite conditions that create conditions for error.
  • When assigned as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician 3:
  • Periodically observe fellow maintenance technicians while performing work activities to ensure proper procedures, techniques, and safety guidelines are being followed.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • The ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the areas of assignment as would be acquired in three to four years of high school.
  • One (1) year of experience in the mechanical maintenance or other relevant field
  • Mechanical Maintenance Technician 2: Four (4) years of experience in the mechanical maintenance or other relevant field
  • Mechanical Maintenance Technician 3: Five (5) years of experience in power plant mechanics or other specialized field
  • Hands-on experience in operations, maintenance and project implementation related to power production, turbine-generators, and auxiliary equipment.
  • The ability to read technical documentation such as piping and instrumentation diagrams, one-line diagrams, and design and analysis reports.
  • Ability to methodically troubleshoot mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Must be able to communicate with other employees and read and write at a level that will enable to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spread sheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet.
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s Safe Driving policy.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
  • When assigned as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician 2 or 3:
  • May be required to obtain a Class B or Class A CDL – Tank Endorsement.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to obtain welding certification to fabricate and weld.
  • The ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds in awkward positions and 75 pounds from the floor to the waist.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, climb to and work off of elevated platforms, ladders and walkways.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, heights exceeding 10 feet, and in harsh weather conditions.
  • Must wear protective equipment in the performance of some duties.
  • Work is subject to exposure to hazardous chemicals, electrical currents, gases, dust, and noxious odors.
  • Job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
