As the Safety Compliance Coordinator the position is responsible for assessing health and safety programs, site safety culture, assisting management in injury and illness prevention, and ensuring construction and operations teams are in compliance with local, state and federal occupational health and safety regulations at all Ormat operating, drilling, and construction locations. This position will perform industrial safety and health inspections, audits, training, and provide support to Ormat’s geothermal, recovered energy generation, solar, storage, manufacturing, construction, and drilling operations. Individuals in this position will administer Ormat’s safety management system, generate reports, and perform analysis of incidents, key performance indicators, and safety statistics.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts safety inspections and audits of construction, drilling, and operational sites, assessing workplace environment to ensure compliance with Ormat policies and occupational safety and health standards and regulations; prepares post-inspection reports with recommendations for management.
  • Leads and participates in Incident Investigations focusing on solving problems and improving the business process.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations and procedures by carrying out and analyzing regular facility audits.
  • Plans, promotes, organizes, directs and audits EHS related activities and operations to ensure consistent execution of policies and procedures.
  • Assists with regulatory interpretation, recommends safe work practices, and advises site workers on hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to the results expected. Determines and develops an approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
  • Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
  • Examines workplace machinery and equipment, such as scaffolding, lifting devices, personal protective equipment, making sure they meet appropriate safety regulations and are being used properly.
  • Conducts research on occupational health and safety matters and prepares summary or detailed reports on findings.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors safety indicators. Maintain, post, and file OSHA 300 log.
  • Manages health and safety information in Ormat’s Safety Management System, managing incident database, performing analysis, and developing reports.
  • Develops and conducts training on occupational health and safety topics.
  • Performs construction or plant outage safety observations, makes recommendations on issues observed, and utilizes stop-work authority as appropriate.
  • Interfaces with construction and maintenance contract personnel and supervision to ensure site safety rules are understood and followed. Evaluates feedback and works to identify the best solutions to problems.
  • Researches and recommends safety solutions including tools, procedures, and safety equipment.
  • Participates in or leads safety committee meetings.
  • Communicates with federal, state and local regulatory bodies.
  • Attends conferences, meetings, and workshops to keep current on EHS regulations, methods, policies, and procedures, and to maintain required level of certification.
  • May be required to occasionally work increased or irregular hours.
  • Must be able to travel.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the planning and scheduling of maintenance, operations and outage activities.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Associated Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Must have 5 years’ experience in general industry, oil and gas, or construction safety.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction and/or General Industry trained or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Certifications, including Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of RCA, and incident investigation processes.
  • Must be familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, codes standards and procedures including OSHA regulations and ISO 25001 occupational health and safety standards.
  • Must have or develop a detailed knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations.
  • Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Must exercise independent judgment and initiative.
  • Must possess acceptable technical writing, verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet.
  • Must be familiar with or able to learn Safety Management System concepts, and to administer Ormat’s Safety Management System.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable under ORMAT’s driver safety program.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.
  • The ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • This position requires sitting 60% of the time and standing and walking 40% of the time.
  • Up to 25% travel, including Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, California, Hawaii, eastern U.S. destinations, with the possibility of international travel.
