Safety and Training Coordinator

Position Summary

This position is responsible for implementing and administering safety and training programs, assessing health and safety programs and site safety culture, and ensuring compliance with regulations at all Ormat locations. It includes performing industrial safety inspections, audits, and training, and supporting Ormat’s various operations. Additionally, the role involves administering the safety management system, generating reports, analyzing incidents and safety statistics, and making improvement recommendations while working closely with Electricity Segment EHST Management.

Essential Functions

  • Exercises considerable judgment in planning, coordinating, records maintenance, and reporting on safety and training activities of staff.
  • Responsible for compliance with and consistently applying safety regulations, permits, and environmental and operating procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining Operator qualifications programs.
  • Responsible for developing and administering training programs to meet operations and maintenance requirements.
  • Responsible for developing, administering, and maintaining plant safety programs according to OSHA requirements.
  • Responsible for developing, reviewing, revising, and communicating the plant safety manuals, first aid, hazard communication, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Interpret, communicate, and obtain verification that safe practices are followed in all departments.
  • Develop, implement, oversee, and/or conduct security inspections according to the program requirements.

  • Responsible for managing environmental policies and training in while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintain contact with emergency response services to ensure exchanged information is current.
  • Conduct onsite environmental inspections and recommending improvements while reinforcing the company vision, values, and goals to the team.
  • As assigned and qualified, assist in plant evolutions, including plant upsets and maintenance work.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to other locations, including rural areas and other states, to work on different projects.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle safely.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier at all times.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management.
  • Perform environmental and general housekeeping duties as assigned by management.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 2 years’ experience in a process plant or related environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of power plant operational experience preferred.
  • Two years of on-the-job training in geothermal plant operation and maintenance.
  • Two years’ experience with a qualification program.
  • 1 -2 years of experience with Microsoft PPT and Learning Management systems.
  • Prior experience and demonstrated aptitude for operating mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures and interpret P&ID electrical drawings.
  • Must have effective written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to write, communicate, and follow operational, safety, and training procedures.
  • The ability to interpret and communicate OSHA requirements.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of various computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet use.
  • Must operate a vehicle safely, remain alert while driving continuously, and read and understand maps.
